NDIS FAQs
What is the NDIS?
The NDIS is the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It provides funding to Australians with permanent and significant disability to access supports and services. Funding from the NDIS is designed so that you have the choice and control to pay for the specific supports you need to live your daily life, participate in the community and achieve your goals.
Find out more about paying for Fighting Chance’s services with NDIS funding here.
Am I eligible?
You are eligible for the NDIS if you:
1. Have a permanent and significant disability.
2. Are under the age of 65 when you first enter the scheme.
3. Are an Australian citizen or permanent resident living in Australia.
If you are eligible, the NDIS will provide funding for reasonable and necessary supports that are required for you to live your life and reach your goals.
How do I access the NDIS?
To access the NDIS, you need to meet access requirements. To find out more about eligibility criteria and who your NDIS partner in the community is, head to the NDIS website.
Fighting Chance has recorded a webinar to help you navigate the access process. Click here to watch the webinar and view additional resources.
What is advocacy?
Advocacy for people with disability can be defined as speaking, acting or writing with minimal conflict of interest on behalf of the interests of a person or group, in order to promote, protect and ensure their full and equal enjoyment of all human rights.
The National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP) provides people with disability with access to effective disability advocacy. There is no cost for participants or service providers to access advocacy services.
Fighting Chance has a policy which guides and informs its obligations in relation to Advocacy. These obligations include informing new participants of their right to use an advocate, supporting participants if they choose to self-advocate and working closely with advocates chosen by participants.
This fact sheet outlines what disability advocacy is, why it is important and why independence matters.
